2027 is the Chinese Year of the Goat – specifically the Fire Goat, also called the Crimson Fire Goat. It begins on 6 February 2027 and ends on 25 January 2028. After the turbulent Fire Horse year of 2026, Goat years are traditionally calmer: a time for peace, diplomacy, family reconciliation, and creativity. The Rabbit and the Pig are the most favoured signs of 2027.

When Does the Year of the Goat Start?
The Year of the Goat begins with Chinese New Year on Saturday 6 February 2027 and runs until 25 January 2028, when the Monkey takes over. The Goat is the eighth sign of the Chinese zodiac – and in Chinese lore, eight is a lucky number associated with growth and prosperity.
You may also see the sign called the Sheep or the Ram. The confusion comes from different translations of the original Chinese word. Whatever you call it, the sign symbolises peace and harmony.
What Is a Fire Goat?
As well as an animal, each Chinese year is ruled by one of five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water. 2027 is a Fire year, so its ruler is the Crimson Fire Goat – a brave, feisty, resilient creature. Each element meets each animal only once every 60 years, so the next Fire Goat won’t come round again until 2087. The last one was in 1967, the year of the Summer of Love and Sgt. Pepper.
2026 was also a Fire year, which is what made it so fiery. But in 2027 the Fire energy is much gentler: less a raging blaze, more the comforting warmth of a hearth or the soft glow of a candle.
What Will the Year of the Goat 2027 Bring?
In Chinese tradition, a soothing, reflective Goat year always follows an energetic Horse year, as the world seeks balance. Goat years are welcomed with a sigh of relief. They are expected to bring:
- Conflicts resolved or at least toned down, and diplomacy stepped up
- Family reconciliations
- A blossoming of the arts and creative endeavours
- Patient craftsmanship rewarded, and originality especially prized
If your friends think you’re a bit quirky, you prefer your own style, and you’d rather have a laugh than a heated argument, you’ll feel right at home in 2027.

Chinese Horoscope 2027: Predictions for Every Sign
Goat (1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015)
After 12 years’ wait, you’re Ruler of the Year. Ideas once dismissed as eccentric or impractical are suddenly the things that count, and far more people will agree with you than argue. But ruling brings responsibility as well as glory. Sustained creative effort is your key to success, career climbs are likely – and you’ll discover even more ways to spend money.
Monkey (1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016)
2027 has the feel of the quiet days between Christmas and New Year: everything is falling into place, because next year the Monkey takes the crown. Opportunities keep coming, but at the Goat’s gentler pace you’ll have time to weigh them up and choose – and to lay the foundations for a big splash in 2028.
Rooster (1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017)
A promising year. After the frantic pace of 2026, which left even happy events feeling rushed, 2027 brings similar good fortune but less intensity. You’re no longer in the spotlight, forced to decide in a blink – and that will feel liberating. At last you can take your time and do things your way.
Dog (1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018)
Your confidence is back, and the Goat intends to continue what the Horse started. Life won’t flow quite as smoothly as in 2026, but minor hitches will barely register. The big theme: the Goat won’t let you stay stuck in a comfortable rut. Expect events that nudge you towards a change you’ve been putting off.
Pig (1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019)
Congratulations – you’re joint Most Favoured Sign of 2027, alongside the Rabbit. The Horse of 2026 swept many Pigs into a new role, home or circle of friends. Now you can settle in, enjoy the results, and discover that the changes have made life better.
Rat (1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020)
A smoother ride than 2026 – but not a simple one, because you and the Goat don’t really “get” each other. Conditions won’t be ideal, yet that brings out the best in a Rat. Expect conundrums to solve and worthy adversaries to outwit, building on the progress many Rats made in earnings, roles and networks last year.
Ox (1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021)
You may not think of yourself as ambitious, but in 2027 you could find yourself rising to the top, with fantastic career opportunities ahead. The catch: you and the Goat don’t quite gel, so the climb will be stop-start. The good news is that the Goat’s slower pace suits you far better than last year’s rush.
Tiger (1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022)
After being one of the Horse’s favourites in 2026, you won’t get the red-carpet treatment this year – but 2027 is still fine for big cats. Expect big career strides and intriguing side hustles in areas you’d never considered. The one challenge for the independent Tiger: everything works better when you team up with others.
Rabbit (1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023)
Put the champagne on ice: you’re the Goat’s star sign of 2027. The Goat loves the Rabbit, and because the Rabbit is a Wood sign – fuel for Fire – the year’s element loves you too. You’re double-blessed. After a stressful 2026, this is a year to think carefully, take your time, and produce something exquisite.
Dragon (1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024)
This year could have been tailored for you. The Goat won’t interfere with your schemes – but won’t speed you along either. For a Dragon, being left alone to get on with it is exactly what you want. 2027 unfolds like a blank canvas you can paint any way you choose.
Snake (1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025)
The Horse’s headache-inducing pace has gone, and 2027 is much more to your taste. You and the Goat are both Fire creatures, so you’re on the same wavelength, and nothing in Goat behaviour will set your nerves jangling. The Goat wants to coax you gently back out into the world – your skills are valued.
Horse (1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026)
Time to hand in your crown. Disappointing? Not for long – 2027 is going to be great for Horses, perhaps even better than your ruling year. Being in charge brought difficult decisions and the blame when things went wrong. Now you can enjoy the rewards of what you learned, without the pressure.
