JP Maxwell studied Russian at University College London, worked for a Californian software company and ran a newspaper kiosk before settling back in Liverpool in 2001. He teaches screenwriting and digital writing at Liverpool John Moores University, and his fiction draws on an Irish and African family history in the city reaching back to the early 1800s.
