In Coaching Beyond The Lines, Hall of Fame soccer coach and two-time author DeAngelo Wiser explores how a coach’s role is about much more than on-field sporting performances; indeed, coaches are central to developing the person as much as the player. A good coach will help bring out the key skills needed to navigate life’s many challenges, including personal responsibility, resilience, and personal discipline.

So, how do coaches bring out the best in their players? By utilizing the four leadership pillars of Influence, Impact, Inspiration, and Integrity, this book explores a wide range of development topics, including attitude, divisiveness, player hunger, consistent decision-making, dealing with conflict, honesty, player leadership, and much more. Using many real-world examples, DeAngelo explores what a coach should (and should not) do to progress their players fully. The book concludes with 24 team-building exercises that have been used over the years by DeAngelo and his teams to develop relationships, cooperation, and togetherness.

The foreword is by Molly Grisham, former college soccer coach and one of the world’s leading experts on team development.
